A One-Minute Candle Spell for Intuition

Issue #87

The Village Grimoire

Have a candle nearby?

Tonight, before bed, light a small white candle (or just use what you have). Take a deep breath, place one hand over your heart, and say:

“I am open to receiving clear guidance. May my intuition speak, and may I recognize its voice.”

Sit with the flame for a minute or two. Notice how it moves and how you feel. Then extinguish the candle and keep a journal nearby for any dreams, nudges, or synchronicities that show up over the next few days.

It’s a simple practice, but that’s the beauty of candle magick. It doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful.

Candles are one of the most common tools in a witch’s practice. We light them for rituals, spells, meditation, prayer, ancestor work, celebrations, and moments when we want to feel more connected. Yet many of us were never taught why we choose certain candles, how to prepare them, what to do with leftover wax, or how to make candle work feel intentional instead of automatic.

That’s exactly what we’ll be talking about during Ask a Witch: Candle Magick on Wednesday, August 5.

We’ll explore the foundations of candle magick, different types of candles and when to use them, preparing candles for magickal work, observing flames and wax, preserving their energy, and the practical questions that don’t always get answered in books or social media posts.

Most importantly, you’ll have the chance to ask your own questions live.

One of my favorite parts of Ask a Witch sessions is hearing the questions that come from the community. Often someone asks something you hadn’t even thought to ask yourself, and everyone leaves with a deeper understanding because of it. It’s a relaxed space to be curious, learn from one another, and build confidence in your own practice.

If candle magick has always felt a little mysterious--or if you’ve been using candles for years and want to deepen your relationship with them--I hope you’ll join us.

Fall magic

The Village Grimoire There's a point every year when I can really feel the Wheel beginning to turn. The days are getting shorter (😢), the trees are beginning to shed, and I always notice a subtle shift in the collective energy. And if we pay attention, we may notice that shift within ourselves too. Fall can bring with it a desire to retreat a little. To spend more time at home, become more selective about where we put our energy, tend to our altars, cook something comforting, or just rest...

Hearth magick

A few days from now, we’re gathering for Ask a Witch: Hearth Magick & House Spirits. If you’ve been curious about living a more magickal life but aren’t quite sure where to begin, this is a lovely place to start. You don’t need a dedicated altar, a cabinet full of herbs, or years of magickal practice. Your home and your everyday surroundings are already places where magick can happen. In this live, one hour Zoom session, we’ll explore hearth magick, house spirits, and the ways our homes can...

Eclipse season

Issue #89 The Village Grimoire A breakup. Firing my first employee. The expensive filming of an online course that completely tanked. These are all things that happened in my life during eclipses. I’m not an astrologer, but I know enough to understand that eclipses are often associated with endings, transitions, and, well--chaos. Because of that, I personally don’t do spells or manifestation work during eclipse season. Astronomically, eclipse season is a roughly 35-day window that occurs when...
